Ask HR AI

Ask questions in your own words: your own HR records are answered from live data, and how-to questions are answered by AI from these help articles.

Ask HR AI answers two kinds of question. Questions about your own records — “my leave balance”, “latest payslip”, “who is my manager?” — are answered from the live records your role can already see, without any AI model. Questions about how to use HRPortal — “how do I add holidays?” — are answered by AI using only these help articles, with links to the articles it used.

  1. Open Ask HR AI from the workspace search, or select the ? button and choose Ask HR AI.
  2. Type your question — for example, “How do I confirm my defaults?”
  3. Read the answer. For how-to answers, open the linked article to check the details.

What the AI can and cannot see

  • How-to answers use only HRPortal’s help articles. The AI does not see employee, salary, bank or identity data, and it is not told who you are.
  • Before a question is sent, email addresses and numbers that look like ID, phone or bank numbers are removed from it.
  • It uses Anthropic’s Claude model, called from HRPortal’s servers. HRPortal records that a question was answered and which articles were cited — not the question or the answer.

AI answers are labelled “AI-generated, check the linked article”. The AI can be wrong, so rely on the article it links to. It never changes anything in your workspace.

Each person can ask up to 30 AI questions a day; the footer of Ask HR AI shows how many are left. An owner or administrator can turn AI answers off for the whole workspace with the “AI help answers for this workspace” switch at the bottom of Ask HR AI. Answers about your own records keep working either way.
