Your first sign-in and workspace preparation

What happens when you open a new HRPortal workspace for the first time, and the choices you make.

When you first sign in as the workspace owner, HRPortal prepares your workspace. You see a short list of steps as each part is set up: Company workspace and organization boundaries, People and organization structure, Attendance, shifts and holiday settings, Leave-management framework, Payroll and compensation workspace, and Roles, approvals, employee self-service and reporting.

Preparing a module creates its workspace. Employees, policies, payroll rules and statutory settings are added by you during setup. Nothing is sent to employees until you invite them.

  1. Wait for every step to show Prepared. If a step shows “This step didn’t finish”, select Retry. You can select Skip presentation to stop the animation.
  2. Select “Your workspace is ready · Continue”.
  3. Under “How would you like to start?”, choose Explore with a sample company or Set up my company. Sample data never mixes with your company’s data, and you can switch later.
  4. If you chose Set up my company, choose how to add your people: Start fresh (add employees by hand or with a simple template) or Bring data from my current HR system.
  5. If you are bringing data, pick where it is today: Keka, greytHR, Zoho People, or Excel / CSV or other. HRPortal only reads from your current system; nothing there changes.

The sample company is a separate workspace with fictional employees, attendance, leave waiting for approval and past payroll months. You can look at it as an employee, a manager or HR.

After this, open Home → Setup checklist. It shows what still needs your input, and the Review your defaults card lists every default your workspace was prepared with.
